TR - I think I remember hearing something last year about anthropologists looking at the bone grit the party left in some of their cooking middens. these guys were studying the stuff to see how many times the poor slobs boiled crushed bones for any remaining marrow, grease, solace...
Mom - thanks!
Ash - gravity, mostly. but I've since seen some pics of snow rollers made by wind! pretty phenomenal.
thanks, Rambling. what a tribute to Herbie, and Frank. and great post on the '77 blizzard.
Fish without Faces is the best name for a blog. Your post for Festival of the Trees is fantastic. I admire you for even walking here. I'm with B who says "it frightens" him. You should publish a book of your photos. They are certainly good enough.
thanks Karen. awesome blog yourself, too. the latest shadow post especially, but the whole thing really.
hey, Coastcard. SW,UK in 'da house! I'm half(or so) Welsh too. and I like the light snowfall happening on your echo blog.
thanks Jacqueline, though I can't wholly claim the title. it's actually riffing on my brother's childhood response to to a first encounter with fish-sticks. and I really like the ethos of your blog too, sort of bringing trees within the moral consideration of the neighborhood watch. especially liking the palm post.
I just watched an american experience about the Donner Party and there was much I did not know. What do you think of that spot? Having been there can you imagine why they didn't turn back?
I've never been through the Donner Pass, but its very existence frightens me.
ReplyDeletecome on B, really? a travelin' man like you, I'm sure you've taken I 80 to San Francisco before. no?
ReplyDeleteeither way, yeah. there's not much out there to eat in the winter. but there's a KILLER doughnut shop just up the road in Truckee!
the donner party must have been very health-conscious to choose eating human flesh over warm, delicious donuts.
ReplyDeletenice title, cool pics
ReplyDeleteHow are those O's made? I just can't seem to figure it. All I can think about are doughnuts...
ReplyDeleteGreat photos.
Those are interesting O's... Seems like a snowy winter in many areas of the country...stay warm...My Festival of The Trees Post..Herbie The Elm Tree
